Registered Apprenticeship Program

Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

CREDITS: 5 - 40

Offered in partnership with Alberta Advance Training and Industry, the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) provides the opportunity for students to earn up to 40 senior high school credits, while simultaneously gaining on-the-job apprenticeship training in a trade career.

For more information, please check out Alberta’s Apprenticeship and Industry and Training Website using this link.

HOW IT WORKS:

  1. Interested students
    • register for the RAP program at NorthStar Academy
    • find a employer to hire and train them as a RAP apprentice.

Please note:  Job placement supports are available through Careers the Next Generation.
  2. Once they have a placement, students submit a RAP application through My Tradesecrets.  As part of this process, their employer will be sent an email with instructions on how to confirm their RAP apprenticeship.
  3. Successful applicants will receive their Blue Book to log their Experience Hours with Alberta Advance Training and Industry and be formally enrolled in NorthStar’s RAP program.
  4. Once formally enrolled, students will receive a NSA Activity Log that needs to be completed and submitted each month.  This Activity Log is in addition to their Blue Book and what the school uses to track student hours and progress.
  5. At each reporting period, applicable course credits will be awarded.  For each 125 hours logged, 5 course credits will be earned.  The maximum number of credits to earn is 40.
